The issue of violence in Chicago has hit some rare air. A gaggle of luminaries ranging from a former White House chief of staff to a retirement age sports writer are all prepped to talk about what is being described as “Chicago’s Biggest Challenge: Neighborhood Safety.” When you look at this lineup it is laughable. How much time has former White House Chief of Staff William Daley spent in an unsafe neighborhood? The same can be asked of most of the panelists. The neighborhood this lunch discussion is being held in is The Standard Club on South Plymouth Court. Throw in the fact the least expensive ticket is $125, and the event makes one wonder if this is the precursor for a Saturday Night Live skit. Do the proceeds benefit any organization working on neighborhood safety, or doing anti-violence work in our most dangerous neighborhoods? Nope, the money goes to the organizer-The Illinois Campaign for Political Reform.
